Craft Masonry is the foundation. Everything else — the rites, the invitational orders, the family and youth organizations, the research societies and the charities — grows from a man's membership in a Craft lodge chartered by a sovereign Grand Lodge.
From the Craft Lodge grow appendant rites, invitational orders, youth organizations, social clubs, philanthropic bodies, and research societies — each with its own Canadian governing authority.
Freemasonry in Canada is organized jurisdictionally. Craft Masonry is governed primarily by provincial Grand Lodges and recognized Prince Hall Grand Lodge jurisdictions. Additional rites, orders and societies operate under their own governing bodies, eligibility requirements and geographic jurisdictions.

Prince Hall Affiliated Freemasonry is presented as a sovereign Craft Masonic tradition with its own Grand Lodges and its own Masonic family — never as an appendant body. Canadian Templar bodies are Preceptories, not Commanderies, and Canadian Scottish Rite bodies are organized in Valleys under the Supreme Council 33° for Canada.
